Analytical Chemist: Analytical Services Manager - Bend, OR

Overview:
Our client, based in Bend, Oregon, is a diversified profitable company with an environmental focus that provides products and services to the commercial agriculture market. The company's principal products, unlike most conventional products of this nature, are non-toxic to humans and animals, leave no harmful residues, do not contaminate groundwater and do not disrupt beneficial insect populations.

They are looking for a Manager the Analytical Services (AS) Department to provide technical and analytical support to the following departments: Operations, Quality Assurance, Product/Research Development, Regulatory and Sales.

Responsibilities (Threefold):
LAB SUPERVISOR
• Supervise AS laboratory functions including quality control tests and analytical projects.
• Monitor the generation of analytical data, ensure appropriate and current test methods are used, critically evaluate the validity of results, and enforce safe work practices.
• Oversee the design and implementation of projects and experiments.
• Provide coaching, mentoring and training in analytical method development, validation, analyzing data, research techniques and problem solving.
• Responsible for scheduling AS equipment maintenance, upgrades and calibration.

DEPARTMENT MANAGEMENT
• Develop annual AS department goals and operational/capital budgets aligned with company strategic objectives.
• Manage AS budget including personnel, facility upgrades, equipment maintenance and capital purchases.
• Conduct biannual reviews of AS laboratory personnel including core competencies, goals and development plans.
• Oversee continuous improvements to maximize quality, efficiency, capability and data output.
• Provide monthly reports to management with updates on progress towards goals and KPIs.

GLP COMPLIANCE PROGRAM MANAGEMENT:
• Direct and oversee the continued implementation and enhancement of GLP procedures in the laboratory (40 CFR Part 160).
• Write and review SOPs.
• Advise on Document Control and Data Archive procedures and maintain personnel files and facility records in accordance with GLP compliant regulations.
• Coordinate training sessions with outside consultants and conduct in house training sessions.
• Attend additional GLP training courses as needed.
• Manage and act as a Study Director for analytical GLP studies.

Required Qualifications:
• M.S. in Chemistry or equivalent with coursework in Analytical Chemistry.
• Minimum 8-10 years analytical chemistry experience, methods development and instrument validation using contemporary laboratory techniques (e.g. GC, MS, FTIR, thermal analysis, particle size analysis, IC).
• Minimum five years supervising experience and proven proficiently in planning, communicating and coaching a team.
• Minimum three years experience with Good Laboratory Practices including the familiarity with GLP and EPA regulatory requirements for laboratory operations and documentation (study director experience required).
• Strong math skills and background in statistics.
• Strong computer skills and proficient in computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
